Chris Frye, along with fellow NCFCA member Alan Jackson, founded the Footcandle Film Society in February 2008. The goal was to provide the citizens of Catawba County with an opportunity to view and discuss films that have traditionally not been available or shown in area theaters. The society meets once a month and holds moderated discussions after the screenings.
In 2011 Chris became a co-host of the Footcandle Films podcast. The podcast records two episodes a month and features film reviews, movie news and recommendations of films that listeners are encouraged to seek out.
In 2015 Frye along with Jackson started the Footcandle Film Festival. The festival screens around 35 films over a long weekend each September. Festival profits are used to support the Footcandle Filmmaker Grant Fund which was created in 2018.
Frye joined the NCFCA in 2019.
