Weaned on Spielberg and matured with Kubrick, Neil Morris served as a freelance film critic for more than two decades beginning in the early 2000s, writing for a range of publications—most notably INDY Week and North Carolina’s Sanford Herald. His work for INDY Week frequently explored the Triangle film scene, while his criticism for the Herald earned commendation from the North Carolina Press Association for seven consecutive years (2007–2013).
In addition to his film writing, Morris has built a distinguished career in sports journalism, with a focus on national soccer coverage. He hosted WRAL SportsFan’s Inverted Triangle Soccer Podcast and has appeared regularly on national broadcasts, including SiriusXM FC. His sports journalism has also been recognized by the North Carolina Press Association, and he covered NC State basketball for INDY Week.
Morris retired from active film criticism after a career spanning more than 20 years. An inaugural member of the North Carolina Film Critics Association in 2012, he was bestowed Emeritus status by the NCFCA in 2026.
