Gods of Egypt
What did NCFCA members have to say about Gods of Egypt?
If Gods is remembered at all after dying a quick death this weekend at the box office (films aren’t released on Oscars weekend that are believed to have any real chance at success), it will be for the tone-deaf way in which the production was handled. Look, if Proyas and others involved in the casting want to make an argument that they were only looking at talent, not skin tone, when signing the actors to this production, they needed to have more successful performances in front of the camera than what is captured here.
I made the mistake of trying to take “Gods of Egypt” seriously for about half of the film, but when I realized that this film is roughly on the level of other films like “Pompeii” and “The Mummy” in terms of hamminess, I started to enjoy myself a lot more.
