'Portlandia' pals mull fame, identity in 'Nowhere Inn,' with St. Vincent, Dakota Johnson
Al Alexander - For The Patriot Ledger
Employing the same deadpan irony of their hit TV show, “Portlandia,” director Bill Benz and co-creator-star-writer Carrie Brownstein reunite for “The Nowhere Inn,” a slightly less satisfying dive into the picked-clean genre of the rockumentary. There are plenty of laughs, to be sure, in Brownstein’s goof on best friend Annie Clark, but too often she fails to know when to say when in fleshing out the woman the world knows best as hypersexualized singer-songwriter St. Vincent.
