Best in Cinema Named by North Carolina Film Critics Association Silver Linings Playbook and The Master Earn Multiple Wins
The inaugural North Carolina Film Critics Association (NCFCA) Best in Cinema Awards featured nine films with multiple nominations, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master and Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty leading the way with six each.
Two films earned multiple awards – The Master and Silver Linings Playbook. Silver Linings Playbook won for Best Narrative Film and Best Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), while The Master earned awards for Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix) and Best Supporting Actor (Phillip Seymour Hoffman).
In an oddity, Anne Hathaway was up against herself in the same category. She was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for both The Dark Knight Rises and the musical Les Miserables. She earned the win for Les Miserables.
For this first year, the NCFCA honored 12 film categories including the Tarheel Award recognizing a film or filmmaker with a North Carolina connection. The Hunger Games was recognized in that category this year.
